Today is our 15th wedding anniversary. Believe me, when you are as different as Sue and I are in terms of how we approach things (direct opposites on the Myer-Brigg's test), it's no small miracle. Thanks for sticking it out with me, Sue!
zehn und ein = elf :-) |
But the idea for this post really came when I went to buy the flowers. They were priced by the flower or you could buy 11 for a price cheaper than 11 times the per flower price. Odd, I thought, not by the dozen (or 13 for a "baker's dozen"). Then I thought about the eggs that I buy ... 10 to a pack. Then I wondered, is the reason we sell things by the dozen in the US because we are on the "english" units system (base 12) and the reason they sell things by the "ten" here because they are on the metric system (base 10, or zehn in German)? I don't know, but I liked my baker's zehn of tulips :-)
